TroubleShooting:

Unable to access the Literacy Intervention Programme through Shockwave?

If after a couple of minutes the only thing you're seeing is a black screen, it is likely that the Adobe Shockwave applet has either failed to complete installation or it's being blocked by a rogue security setting.

A few quick ideas that may help...

  • Firstly, try refreshing the browser.   Go back a page or two, then forward.   Try the site a few times.

  • Secondly, could you try it with another browser?   Sometimes the problem is browser related.

  • We have had the programme running successfully under Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera.
However, on some computers it works under one browser and not another, so give it a try!

If the programme still doesn't play, you now have two options:

    1. Get the Adobe Shockwave player working with your browser (see below)

    2. Discard the browser option, and simply run the programme through our App...  [ Get the App ]

    Reset JavaScript (Windows only)
Sometimes the problems with Shockwave are actually caused by JavaScript not registering properly - please try this. (It's meant to be turned on anyway!)

  • Close all internet browsers.
  • If required, Log on with Administrator user access.
  • Then go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click on Command Prompt. Select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu that pops up.
Look to see if you're already in the "C:\Windows\system 32>" folder...
[ IF NOT... In the Command Prompt window, type (without quotes) "c:" and press enter to make sure you're on the C: drive. Then type (without quotes) "cd windows\system 32" and press enter. ]
  • If you are in the above folder...type in (without quotes) "regsvr32 jscript.dll" and press enter.
  • You should receive a popup saying that registration succeeded.
  • Open Browser - and try The Spelling Centre web site again.

  • Reset Internet Explorer (Windows I.E. only)
Sometimes a simple reset of the Internet Explorer settings fixes most issues.

  • Start Internet Explorer.
  • On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  • On the Advanced tab, click Reset.
  • In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset to confirm.
  • Close Browser - Open Browser - and try the website again.
  • Check that the Shockwave Player & JavaScript applets are enabled
Sometimes these applets get turned off, and all you need to do is turn them back on again!

    Internet Explorer

  • Internet Explorer: Menu: Tools > Internet Options, Program Tab, click button: Manage add-on's, Show: currently loaded add-on's, switch to all add-on's, set the Shockwave activeX control to Enable, close.
  • Internet Explorer: Menu: Tools > Internet Options, Security tab, click icon: Internet, click button: Custom Level, scroll to the "Scripting" section of the list, click radio button Enable under Active scripting, click radio button Enable under 'Scripting of Java applets, close.
  • Restart browser

  • FireFox
  • Firefox: Menu: Tools > Add-ons, Plugins tab, Select Shockwave Flash, enable
  • Firefox: Menu: Firefox > Preferences, Content tab, Check Enable JavaScript
  • Restart browser

  • Safari
  • Safari: Menu: Safari > Preferences, Security tab, Web content: check Enable plug-ins
  • Safari: Menu: Safari > Preferences, Security tab, Web content: check Enable JavaScript
  • Restart browser

  • Opera
  • Opera: Menu: Opera > Quick Preferences > Enable Plug-Ins
  • Opera: Menu: Opera > Quick Preferences > Enable JavaScript
  • Restart browser

  • Uninstall and Re-Install Shockwave
Download the Adobe Shockwave Installer (or alternate installer) from the Adobe website (click the link below).

After that if it's still not working...

Please give up on Shockwave and simply run the programme through our App...
